Last night was truly something special. I had the chance to join Zane the Dane and all his dog friends at the Paws & Pints event hosted by the Denver Animal Shelter (DAS). It felt like the perfect mix of wagging tails, craft beers, and good-hearted people—an Oktoberfest-themed celebration where our community came together to support animals in need.

Denver, Dogs, and a Good Pint

If there’s one thing I love about Denver, it’s how much this city cares about pets and pints. At Paws & Pints, those two passions blended beautifully. I enjoyed sampling some of Denver’s finest craft beers while learning about the amazing work DAS does every day for nearly 10,000 animals a year.

Behind the Scenes at DAS

One of the highlights for me was the shelter tour. It gave me a chance to see how DAS operates behind the scenes—from intake and medical care to adoptions and fostering. Hearing shelter director Melanie Sobel share her hope that we’d all leave “full of good food, great memories, and a deeper sense of connection to the shelter” really struck me. She nailed exactly how I felt walking out.

Supporting Programs That Matter

What made the night even more meaningful was knowing the funds raised are going toward vital programs like:

• Spay and neuter services to prevent overpopulation

• Foster initiatives that give animals safe, loving homes

• Community outreach to connect and educate residents

• Emergency medical treatments for pets in crisis

These programs are the backbone of what DAS does, and seeing the community rally behind them reminded me how powerful these events can be.

Zane the Dane Steals the Show

Of course, the dogs were the true stars. Zane the Dane—always the life of the party—soaked up the attention, surrounded by his four-legged pals. Watching them wag, play, and charm everyone they met was a joyful reminder of why this work matters. Events like this aren’t just about raising money—they’re about celebrating the incredible bond we share with our pets.

Ending the Night on a High Note

I left Paws & Pints with a full heart, a smile on my face, and maybe a little fur on my clothes. It was one of those nights where you could feel the connection between people and animals, where every pint poured and every paw shaken carried purpose.

For Zane the Dane, his friends, and the countless animals waiting for their forever homes, last night wasn’t just fun—it was hope in action. And I can’t wait for the next chance to be part of it.
